ENGLAND CAPTAINCY 


David Beckham became the England Captain on 15th November 2000. His stunning last-minute free-kick against Greece at Old Trafford in Manchester lead England into the 2002 World Cup in Korea & Japan. After quarter-final loss to Portugal in 2006 World Cup hosted in Germany on 2nd July Beckham stepped down as a captain. He will be remembered as the best and most passionate England captain ever by most of their supporters. 


Short facts about his career with England National Team 

SEPTEMBER 1996: Debut v Moldova. 

JUNE 1998: First international goal against Colombia in World Cup but is sent off as England lose to Argentina in last 16. 

NOVEMBER 2000: Made captain by stand-in boss Peter Taylor. 

OCTOBER 2001: His last-minute free-kick against Greece books place in 2002 World Cup. 

JUNE 2002: Recovers from broken foot to lead England to World Cup last eight. 

JUNE 2004: Misses penalty as England lose shootout to Portugal in Euro 2004 quarter-final. 

JULY 2006: Steps down as captain after 2006 World Cup quarter-final loss to Portugal.
